Welcome to the Cub Scout Pack 285 website! Our Pack meetings are held at 7:00pm on the last Tuesdays of the month at Tuscarora Elementary School in Frederick, MD. With over 43 Scouts, 5 dens, and 19 volunteers we are a fun and active Pack!

Pack 285 is proud to be chartered by Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick. We are also one of the many packs, troops, and crews that make up the Appalachian Trail District which is a part of the National Capital Area Council.

2010-2011 Pack Event Schedule
August 2010
21 – Rain Gutter Regatta. Time: 11:30am to 2:30pm. Location: Pincliff Park Shelter#5 What to bring: Webelos dens are asked to bring a desert to share, Tiger/Wolf/Bear dens are asked to bring a side dish to share. Main dish and drinks are provided by the Pack. Come out for an afternoon of building and painting rain gutter regatta boats. While the paint dries, we will enjoy a picnic and other activities. Then its time for the grand finale – racing our boats! 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded to the fastest 3 boats. All scouts will receive a rain gutter regatta patch for a job well done! Boats for scouts are provided by the Pack, if siblings wish to participate cost is $5 for a boat. For questions and RSVPs contact Lynn Cavagnaro.

15 – Join Scouting Night. Location: Tuscarora Elementary School Cafeteria. Time: 7 to 8pm. Boys in 1st through 5th grade and their families are invited to Join Cub Pack 285 for this very special event to learn what it means to Be A Scout! There will be cub scout games and activities for the boys to enjoy while the parents talk to and have their questions answered by current leaders of Pack 285. 25 – Appalachian Trail Cub Scout Olympics and Bike Rodeo. More details to follow.
26 – Nationals Baseball Game Scout Day. Come see the Nats versus the Braves at the Nats Stadium in DC. There will be a pre-game parade and special scout patch for all participating scouts. Prices are as follows: Upper Outfield Gallery $6, Upper Right Field Terrace $7, Upper Infield Gallery $11. If interested send email to Tina Tyree so that she can group order tickets. The website has undergone many updates in order to make sure that the members of Pack 285 have the most up to date and current information regarding meeting schedules and pack activities during the start of the 2009-2010 scouting year. These updates and more information regarding awards, leadership information, and photos will be done as the year goes on. Check back often!

What: Fun-filled day with Basic Skill Challenges (These challenges allow Cub Scouts to demonstrate that they can control their bike under a variety of situations), Safety Challenges (In this challenge the boys will be required to use hand signals correctly and obey the rules of the road), Bike Garage (Bike and helmet safety checks will be performed. This is a great station for Webelos to start on their Handyman Activity pin and Bear Scouts to earn some achievements). Olympics will feature track and field events such as running and jumping.
Who: Open to all Cub Scouts. Please wear uniform shirt. Neckerchief optional. Helmets instead of hats. Close toed shoes. All bikes welcome including training wheels.
When: Saturday, September 19, 2009. Check-in begins at 10:00 a.m. Event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Will be held light rain or shine.
Where: Middletown Fireman’s Carnival Grounds (just off Franklin Street – across from Middletown Primary on the same side of the street)
Volunteers: Each pack is requested to provide at least one volunteer. Olympics volunteers should contact Larry Call at lcall@mip.net and Bike Rodeo volunteers should contact Nick Maliszewskyj at (301) 371-7070.
Fee: $5 if postmarked by September 13, 2009. $8 after September 13, 2009 as same day registration. First 80 registered will receive Appalachian Trail patch and Olympics Participation Ribbon.
